#43 - The Rona Series Episode 34: Generational Differences - Expectations vs. Reality
Show Notes

Growing up in the millennial generation (and more specifically, in an Asian household), there were many strict rules including the expectations bestowed upon us from our parents.  We were expected to find success, which is most obvious,  but sometimes the greater disconnect from their intentions was what appeared to be a lack of trust from them.  In this episode, we took a question from one of our listeners and discussed how we dealt with the realities of growing up versus the expectations from our parents.

We felt like our parent's generation had to grow up quicker than we had.  Not to say the difficulties of growing are not the same, we all had to deal with life differently.  Another point of contention that may differ from our parent's generation:  living with our significant other before marriage.  It seems like expectations of yesteryear from our parent's generation was to look forward to moving in with your partner after marriage.  From our generation, it seems more often we are living with our partner before marriage.  Throughout the episode we talk about our opinions on that topic.

In the end, we had a great discussion talking about our culture, our parents, and reminisce about the lessons they have taught us.  It seems that we find a lot of commonality in how our parents had raised us was out of love and just wanting the best for us.  Even if it may not be the best parenting style, we conclude that if you learn to communicate with your parents, regardless, you can learn to communicate with anyone.
