It has been a complete year since our world here in the States flipped upside down. Or stalled, or however you would like to call it. As of the time of this episode, it was approximately the end of March 2020 that our government had issued a stay-at-home order hoping to prevent the spread of Covid-19. In hindsight, we all thought the lock downs for the pandemic would've only lasted a few months at most. Looking back on the year since, we see that the pandemic was a lot worst that we could've imagined, and we are still in it regardless of vaccine roll-outs.
In this episode, we catch up and reflect on our lives so far as we made it to a whole year since the pandemic had started over here in the States. If you had been a listener of our podcast since the beginning, we started the Rona Series inspired by how we are living through these strange times. As we had a great time sharing our stories throughout those episodes, we would have never thought that it would have been going on this long.
Throughout this episode, we discussed how even though vaccines are finally rolling out to eligible people worldwide, we are still in pandemic. Over the course of the year, we definitely have experience shifts in cultural norms, for instance, required wearing of masks in public. Though this doesn't seem like a total issue, it has caused some stress and disparity that we won't go into too much of the politics in this episode. It is eerie to note that the biggest news before the first stay-at-home orders had began was the Spring Breakers in Miami. And now that we near the one year anniversary of those lock downs, we are again seeing reports of Spring Breakers in Miami. Though we are not advocating this is a causation of the pandemic, it is something to note. We hope that with vaccines, we are closer to slowing the spread and getting back to what once was considered normal.
In the end, it has definitely been a wild year that shifted a lot of attitudes and cultural norms. Though the pandemic was a huge factor, a lot of other social issues combined with this definitely caused a huge change. Through it all, it's not clear what will happen when we are fully able to get back to pre-pandemic levels of being social. Until then, we have to continue to find ways to show kindness and support for one another.
